Description: Synaptics is rapidly expanding its biometric algorithm team with an initial focus on fingerprint matching. The specific challenges of this work go far beyond the traditional ones associated with fingerprint matching. We are looking for a highly-qualified manager for the team of highly talented and motivated biometric algorithm developers and computer vision experts. The team is currently focused on novel methods for fingerprint detection using custom ASICs designed for the consumer electronics space. The work for this position encompasses organizing and managing algorithm development, software engineering, optimization, and new feature development. Much of the work will be developed in Matlab and C. Importantly, solid software engineering practices must be employed to ensure a robust implementation. In addition to improving existing approaches, there is opportunity to explore new ideas and invent new approaches to solving problems.
This position is one of hands-on management of the algorithm team along with interaction with other parts of the biometric organization and customers. We will hire at a level commensurate with experience and capability.
•PhD in EECS with background in computer vision, pattern recognition or related field
•5+ years of design experience
•5+ years of technical leadership, especially managing a small design team
•Fluency in developing code in C/C++ as well as Matlab
•Extensive experience in developing robust, productized software
•Prior hands on experience of building system and architecting real world products
•Strong mathematical background
•Background in biometrics
•Knowledge of fingerprint image processing and matching, face detection and matching, active presence detection and/or tracking algorithms
•Experience in porting to embedded systems and optimizing code for such platforms
•Ability to design experiments, analyze data, debug and optimize algorithms
•Experience in statistical modeling, machine learning, and regression
•Experience in de-blurring and computational photography
