|Title: ERC-funded PostDoc & PhD Positions||Posted: June 7, 2015|
|Company/Institution: TU Darmstadt|
|Location: Darmstadt, Germany|
|Department: Dept. of Computer Science, Visual Inference Group|
Description: The Visual Inference group at TU Darmstadt led by Stefan Roth is looking for several highly-motivated PostDocs and PhD students in the area of computer vision and/or machine learning.
Positions: The positions are funded through a prestigious Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC). Its goal is to develop the foundations of modeling, learning and inference in rich, joint representations of visual scenes that naturally encompass several scene properties. The project aims to address heterogeneous visual representations (discrete and continuous, dense and sparse) as well as a range of levels of abstractions (from the pixels to high-level abstractions). Possible application areas are diverse and include motion estimation, segmentation, video restoration, tracking, and 3D scene understanding.
This project will give several PhD students and PostDocs the opportunity to collaborate on a variety of challenging problems at the forefront of computer vision and machine learning. The working language of the research group and the project is English. The positions are remunerated at a competitive level.
The Visual Inference group conducts research in several areas of computer vision with an emphasis on statistical methods and machine learning. We regularly publish in the premier vision conferences and journals; our work has received several awards, including paper prizes at ICCV and CVPR. Re- cent projects include probabilistic models of low-level vision, image restoration, optical and scene flow, semantic segmentation, human tracking, as well as object detection.
TU Darmstadt is one of the leading technical universities in Germany. Its Computer Science department consistently ranks among the top 5 in Germany and offers opportunity for collaboration with several other leading groups in the areas of vision, graphics, robotics and learning. Darmstadt is a very livable medium-size city in the Rhein-Main metropolitan area very close to Frankfurt.
Application Instructions: We are looking for PostDocs and PhD students with excellent analytical skills that are highly-motivated, curious, and creative. PostDoc applicants should demonstrate an internationally visible research record in computer vision and/or machine learning, with publications in the leading venues. PhD applicants should have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field with an outstanding academic record. A background in computer vision and/or machine learning is a plus, but more importantly solid mathematical and programming skills are required. Knowledge of German is not required, but strong English skills are expected.
Application Procedure: Interested applicants should visit our group’s web site for details on how to apply. Applications will be reviewed starting on June 21, 2015, but the positions remain open until filled.
