Sony's U.S. Research Center currently has an opening for Senior Applied
Research Engineer in our San Jose, California location. This position is
responsible for researching and developing algorithms and architectures for
integration into advanced services and products.
Investigate and utilize complex engineering and mathematical principles
to develop core technologies.
Contribute to research projects that develop a variety of algorithms
and systems in computer vision, image and video analysis.
Assessment and improvement of algorithm performance on a variety of
Analyze and determine system standards and test procedures.
Evaluation of identifiable factors and demonstrate good judgment in
selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Advance the state-of-the-art in the field, including generating
Fast prototyping, feasibility studies, specification and implementation
of image and video analysis product components.
Working with researchers in global locations to understand algorithm
requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
Propose new methods and direction of research by communicating
effectively with counterpart and related groups
PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering or
Computer Science is required
Minimum of 5 years of industrial level research experiences in
Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Image Understanding are
Strong knowledge in Deep Learning, especially in field of Computer
Vision is required
Strong theoretical and practical background in Computer Vision,
Image and Video analysis, specifically Object Detection, Tracking,
Semantic Segmentation, Optical Flow and Stereo Vision, Statistical
Evaluation, Optimization, Generative Models and Probabilistic
Graphical Models are strong plus
Proven ability to develop new research ideas as demonstrated by a
strong publication record and early developments to the level of a
working system prototype is a strong plus
Excellent programming skills in C/C++ and Python or Matlab is a
Solid knowledge on Deep Learning frameworks such as Caffe, Torch,
TensorFlow, MXNet is a strong plus
Must be self-motivated and creative, with proven analytical skills,
excellent research record, and ability to communicate effectively
Flexibility and adaptability to work and collaborate among
researcher in global locations and ability to propose new methods
and direction of research is required
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally if required
