Description: Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) was established by the Italian government with the objective of promoting technological development and higher education in science and technology. In this framework, IIT is implementing a detailed scientific program based on integration across fundamental research and application. IIT's research endeavour focuses on high-tech and innovation, representing the forefront of technology with possible application from medicine to industry, computer science, robotics, life sciences and nanobiotechnologies.
The Visual Geometry and Modelling (VGM) Lab of the Pattern Analysis and Computer Vision (PAVIS) department at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) is offering a Postdoc position.
This call aims at consolidating VGM expertise in advanced optimization techniques for computer vision, signal processing and life science fields. In particular, the research aim is to provide new and efficient solutions for matrix factorization and component analysis that can be applied to a variety of problems, among which we will primarily consider the structure from motion, room reconstruction from sound, object recognition, single molecule localization in microscopy, brain and neurons connectomics.
These themes will have high degrees of interdisciplinarity in particular with the Neuroscience and Nanophysics IIT departments dealing with problems at the frontier of life science research.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in computer vision, machine learning, signal processing, applied math or related areas. Evidence of top quality research on the above areas in the form of published papers is definitely required. Experience on sparse and manifold optimization, component analysis and big data processing are considered a plus for this application.
The salary will be commensurate to qualification and experience and in line to that of the research Institutes in the rest of Europe.
