Description: Video analytics in a virtual world
In the past, computer vision researchers have been somewhat reluctant about the use of synthetic imagery because virtual worlds provided only a simplified and biased approximation of the real world. With the latest advances in computer graphics, however, highly realistic virtual worlds can be generated and Virtual Reality is gaining a foothold in many segments of the industry. The aim of this internship is to investigate the usefulness of 3D virtual reality in the context of video analytics. The project will explore different ways to leverage photorealistic virtual imagery for training, evaluation, and fine-tuning of computer vision components in object detection and tracking.
The successful applicant will be given the freedom and flexibility to explore his/her solutions, and will also have the guidance and support of experienced full-time Xerox researchers who work on this topic.
- Enrollment in a graduate program (PhD program is a plus)
- Strong knowledge in computer graphics; experience in computer vision is a plus
- Strong development skills in either Python or C/C++
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Highly motivated
