Description: A postdoctoral position is available in the Alber Computational Biology lab at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The research focus is to develop and apply computational methods for the analysis of cryo-electron tomograms and x-ray tomograms of whole cells or cellular organelles. In particular, the prospective candidate will develop advanced image pattern mining methods in the emerging area of visual proteomics or visual genomics. Research will be conducted in close collaboration with experimentalists. The qualified applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in computer science with prior experiences in image analysis. Previous experience in bioinformatics is preferred but not essential. The USC computational biology division is highly interactive including 9 faculty members with research interest in computational sequence analysis, data integration, epigenomics, evolution, and structural biology. There are extensive collaborations between computational and experimental biologists. We are also an NIH Center for Excellence in Genomic Sciences.
