Description: My repeat-client is a $10 Billion firm with an outstanding opportunity for a computer scientist with strong technical and team-working capabilities in establishing global robotic automation platforms for a leading electrical component manufacturing company. The individual shall be an expert to provide insight into system programming for automated production lines with a focus on in-depth technical advice for novel machine vision algorithms and applications. The individual shall be responsible for leading software development for next generation automation machines, with particular expertise in developing new machine vision algorithms and approaches. Ability to improve software design and performance to enable low cost, flexible and modular robotic automation with integration of advanced manufacturing processes is also part of the desired technical capabilities. This is a rare opportunity to join a high-performing organization with a global role, reporting to directly to the Fellow of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, as part of the corporate global technology team. This role will be a focal point of my Client's global machine vision automation technical expertise on current leading edge and next generation technologies. This position will also have the responsibility for establishing robotic automation modular flexible platforms at various manufacturing sites worldwide. Description: As a senior computer scientist, you will report to the technology fellow, but interface directly with manufacturing engineering teams inside different business units to provide programming & machine vision technical expertise on current cutting edge and next generation technologies. You will be working on research and development of next generation automation technology with universities and research institutes. During the technology transfer phase, you will be working closely with process engineers, manufacturing engineers and external system integrators. Most importantly, you will be the technical safe-guard for program design during different phases of an automation project, including requirement definitions, conduct concept review and detailed design review, installation, training and final ramp-up trouble shooting, all the way to transition the automation project to one of my Client's business units. Responsibilities include: Innovate and develop the next generation of automation software platforms and standard modules for flexible manufacturing processes. Identify if levels of technologies should be sourced internally or externally. Develop new machine vision algorithms and approaches Implement software for automation machines, with a focus on companywide reuse Research, source and implement machine vision systems and controls Manage sourcing of components and technologies from suppliers Lead machine vision and automation system startup and testing for production As a software and machine vision resource to address and to develop and/or execute robotic automation projects and strategies, and collaborate with other computer scientists and engineers inside Company to provide consulting services Working with intellectual property (IP) councils and legal teams to innovate and to strengthen Company's IP strategies and portfolios in advanced manufacturing automation technology. Provide necessary engineering support in software development and machine vision Enable smooth and open communication with external non-standard automation equipment vendor regarding the requirement of machine vision systems Work with internal or external automation team members to over-come major technical challenges in machine vision in a timely manner Professional Qualifications: A strong technically oriented engineer with clearly demonstrated experience and a track record of developing automation and machine vision software Mastery of computer science and machine vision theory Minimum 4 year experience with windows programming in an automation context Minimum 4 years hands-on experience with automation software development Proficient within the Windows® OS, Matlab®, Simulink® and LabView® Hands-on experience in machine vision Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills Strong problem solving and analytical skills Experience in embedded operating systems and robot operating systems Develop new algorithms, particularly within the field of machine vision Develop test cases and methodologies to evaluate new machine vision and automation software Familiar with different robot & machine vision programming platforms, including EPSON SPEL+®, ABB Rapid®; Familiar with ROC and MVTec® Halcon® is preferred Experience with different programming language is preferred, including MS. NET, C++, C; familiar with Python is preferred; Minimum Degree and Experience: MS + 6 years’ experience or PhD + 3 years’ experience (preferred) in control / robotics or equivalent Ability and willing to travel 25% (domestic and international) to Client's facilities Personal characteristics of the individual: High level of initiative and drive with a strong sense of urgency and accountability; energetic, proactive, and hardworking so as to lead by example; Strong communications skills; must demonstrates an open, honest, and transparent communication style with excellent interpersonal skills; ability to explain complex topics concisely to a non-technical audience; Excellent judgment and experiences in an environment which requires emotional maturity, politically savvy, and the personal ability to interact with all types of personnel at varying levels; Keen business judgment; demands excellence and sets high standards for self and others; high-level of intellectual curiosity combined with strong problem-solving and analytical skills; Willingness and personal style to be a team player and foster a team environment, with the capacity and aptitude to serve as a leader in motivating and inspiring others; Impeccable ethics and integrity.
