The Team: Core Vision Group, Vision Software Business Unit
The Core Vision Group is responsible for designing and developing the most sophisticated Machine Vision software in the world. Our software is used to align, measure, recognize, and inspect all types of products from computer chips to chocolate chip cookies. Our systems are used in the production of over a billion products every day across many different industries including consumer goods, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, robotics and electronics.
Industrial machine vision technology is used to analyze imagery (intensity, color, density, Z-data, etc.): to detect, identify and localize objects, to make measurements, to inspect for defects, and to read encoded data. In many cases, products simply could not be made without Cognex’s vision products. Technology development is critical to the overall business to expand areas of application, improve performance, discover new algorithms, and to make use of new hardware and processing power. Development is primarily done in C and C++. Engineers in this group typically have experience with image analysis, machine vision, or signal processing. Success in this role has the potential to lead to increased responsibility at Cognex.
The Role: Engineering Manager
We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to manage the Vision Tool Libraries team and to manage specific projects within the Core Vision Group. This individual will manage an exceptional development team and manage specific projects that result in new vision algorithms.
1.Direct a team of software developers in a wide variety of research and product development projects in machine vision.
2.Responsible for management of Vision Tool Libraries projects; plan necessary resources and track the projects through to successful completion.
3.Career development of each member of the team; mentoring and leadership as well as hire/fire/review responsibility.
4.Software development process improvement; assess current methods and practices and action ongoing continuous improvements.
5.Participate as part of a concurrent engineering team with various internal groups (marketing, engineering, documentation, program management and others) to plan and execute new project initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Knowledge of signal processing and computer vision.
•Experienced in C/C++ software development practices and tools.
•Strong project management experience required.
•Technically capable of reviewing and questioning technical details and plans.
•Experience working in cross-functional teams.
•Experience developing Windows based and embedded libraries.
•Strong, engaging leader, not afraid to challenge and inspire, who is equally strong and skilled as a team member.
•Excellent interpersonal and communications skills required.
•Experience in managing VIP customers.
•A positive, 'glass half-full' personality who always wants to look for ways to make things better
•Energy and enthusiasm
Minimum education and work experience required:
1.MS from a top engineering school in Computer Science or Engineering or similar.
2.5+ years experience in software development
3.3+ years of management experience in software product development.
