The Visual Computing team in Bosch Research and Technology Center (Palo Alto office) is seeking an enthusiastic and creative system engineer/scientist with a strong desire to drive technology development in this domain towards viable solutions to growing market needs.

Type: Full-time position

Major(s): Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields

Degree level: B.S.E (with at least 2 years of industry experience) or M.Sc. or Ph.D.

Start Date: as soon as possible

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain versatile hardware and software platforms for rapid prototyping and development of novel applications in computer vision, computer graphics, and visualization technologies, including virtual reality, augmented reality, big data visualization, real-time rendering, web graphics; particularly those related to Bosch business.
  • Together with an international team of experts, drive the design and implementation of innovative solutions that improve the user experience of next generation Bosch products such as advanced driver information and assistance systems, security systems, smart home and building solutions, virtual testing, internet of things, robotics and autonomous systems, and industry 4.0 applications.
  • Actively promote the latest in system innovations and best practices to enable future research platforms and solutions.
  • Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent programming skills, proficient in multiple languages and libraries (e.g., C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, HTML5, OpenCV, OpenGL, DirectX).
  • 2+ years of experience in designing and developing complete, high-quality camera/sensor module integration solutions including both hardware and software, such as camera arrays, display or camera systems, wearable sensing systems, and multiple sensor/data fusion.
  • Good computer graphics programming skills.
  • Basic knowledge in applied machine vision technologies including lighting, optics, electronics, mechatronics, and imaging algorithms.
  • Ability to write high-performance, reusable cross platform code that works for PC, different mobile devices, and web platforms.
  • Ability to work independently or with domain experts in converting theoretical work into working prototypes.
  • Passion for quality products, software development principles and best practices.
  • Strong research and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and technical writing skills.
  • Experience with source control (SVN or Git).
  • Desired Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated success in any leadership role of product development.
  • Demonstrated success working with research teams to quickly create and deploy products or prototypes.
  • Experienced in developing real-time computer graphics or computer vision systems (e.g., tracking).
  • Experience in mobile and web-based platform development.
  • Publication record in leading visual computing venues (e.g., CVPR, ISMAR, I3D, ICCV, VR, SIGGRAPH).
