Description: The Information Processing in Medical Interventions Group at the Institute for Surgical Technology and Biomechanics, University of Bern is looking for a highly motivated PhD student with cutting edge machine learning and medical image analysis background to develop an efficient method to generate 3D anatomical models using CT-free imaging protocols that are used in clinical routine in order to support computer-assisted treatment of femoroacetabular impingements (FAI). The applicant is expected to develop a fully automatic approach based on multi-modal im-ages combining 2D X-ray radiograph with 3D Magnetic Resonance (MR) Images acquired with small field of view (FOV). This is a three-year position that is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and is available immediately. The PhD student will be part of a team consisting of the principal investiga-tor (PI), one post-doc, two programmers, and five other PhD students. Required skills/experiences include: (A) Master degree in Computer Science, Electrical En-gineering, Applied Mathematics or related fields with knowledge and experience in medical image analysis, machine learning or computer vision algorithm develop-ment and implementation; and (B) Excellent programming skills in C++ and Matlab. Annual salary: on average $48'500.0 ($47'040.0 for year 1, $48'540.0 for year 2 and $50'040.0 for year 3) plus fringe benefits in Bern, Switzerland.
