Description: An outstanding and motivated PhD candidate, with a very good first Masters or honours degree in mathematics, computer science or science, is being sought to work as part of a research team on developing optimization methods in computer vision, robotic vision and machine learning. A strong background in mathematics and some programming experience is desirable for this position. Experience in optimization, computer/robotic vision and/or machine learning is also meriting. The project is supported by the Australian Research Council and involves academic partners in both Europe and the US. The successful candidate will work in a highly intellectual and cross-disciplinary research environment within the Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) Discipline and Australia’s lead node for the $19M ARC’s Centre of Excellence in Robotic Vision. The PhD research project will complement this world class Centre and will provide an enriching research environment with discipline experts enabling a thriving intellectual environment. QUT as a whole has one of Australia’s fastest growing research profiles and is committed to high quality, high impact research in areas of strength or emerging priority. This strategic vision is reflected in the new $250M Science and Engineering Centre which houses the multidisciplinary Institute for Future Environments and cognate centres spanning science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines.
