Description: We are seeking a highly motivated KTP Associate to work in collaboration with Gaist Solutions Ltd (www.gaist.co.uk). The project is part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme, supported by the UK Technology Strategy Board (TSB). The aim of these schemes is to transfer knowledge between universities and industry. Further information about KTPs is available at www.ktponline.org.uk.

The project provides an excellent opportunity to use cutting edge research skills in computer vision to solve the problem of maintaining the UK's most valuable publicly-owned asset. The KTP Associate will lead the analysis and development of novel computer vision systems that dramatically raise the quality and speed of road surveys. The new systems will enable video from camera-equipped vehicles to be analysed to assess the quality of roads and footways as well as geo-locating inventory such as street-side furniture.

The KTP Associate will be an employee of the university and will be supervised by leading vision and AI researchers, but will spend most of their working time embedded at the company (based at their Bradley office near Skipton). The project is aimed at creating practical, commercialisable industrial systems, based on state-of-the-art methods from vision and AI research; at the same time we expect to generate high quality research publications from the work. The post includes a generous budget for training, travel and equipment.

The company takes a unique approach to supporting any organisations vital assets and services by providing technical experience fused with the latest technology. Gaist Solutions Ltd are already involved in a number of different collaborative research projects with the University of York, including a very successful KTP project.

Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Vision, Image Processing, Robotics or a related topic. You will also need to demonstrate how you meet the essential requirements of the post as indicated in the person specification.
