Salary Package: $88,875 (x 117%) - $119,733 (x 117%) (note: 17% is the superannuation benefit)

Position Overview:

The Research School of Engineering at the Australian National University (ANU) is one of the premier engineering research institutions in the world. The ANU is supported by research intensive funding from the Australian Government to provide international research leadership across a wide range of areas and to train future international research leaders. We seek applications from early career researchers (with 1-5 years postdoc experience with respect to opportunity since the award of their PhD) for Future Engineering Research Leadership Fellows.

These positions are 5 years research intensive positions to provide ambitious researchers with the opportunity to grow an international reputation for research excellence and mature into international research leaders.

Successful candidates will be provided with mentoring and support to define their own research agendas, apply for competitive funding, develop their own laboratory facilities where appropriate, and to begin building a research team. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise graduate students in their research area and contribute to the teaching program of the School. The position comes with a yearly budget to cover visitors and conference travel (including carers support for parents with young children who need to travel for their work) as well as the possibility to negotiate significant start-up funds for academics in experimental areas.

Targeted research areas:

Computer Vision (and machine learning); Robotics; System and Control ; Applied Signal Processing ; Material and Manufacture ; Solar Energy, etc.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field of Engineering or related field, evidence of the ability to pursue an independent research program and a strong commitment to both graduate and undergraduate teaching programs of the school.

Applications should include (1) detailed curriculum vitae including a publication list, (2) a statement to selection criteria, (3) a research vision statement, (4) a brief statement on teaching interests and (5) the names and contact details of five referees. The research vision should include either (a) strong synergy with one or more research groups in the Research School of Engineering, by naming the groups and detailing the synergy, or (b) a clear vision for development of a new compelling research theme.
