Title: Two PhD positions in Human/Computer VisionPosted: September 9, 2014
Company/Institution: Technical University Munich
Location: Munich, Germany
Department: Institute for Human-Machine-Communication

Description:

Two PhD positions in Human/Computer Vision are available at the Institute for Human-Machine-Communication of Technical University Munich. They are funded by the Elite Network Bavaria as part of the newly established International Junior Research Group led by Michael Dorr.

Our research bridges human and computer vision and we study how biological systems deal with the enormous complexity of the real world, and how we can build technical systems that mimic and augment these impressive skills. Particular emphasis is placed on attention mechanisms and the selective processing of dynamic natural scenes by rapid eye movements. Techniques we use include modelling, eye-tracking, and real-time video processing for gaze-contingent displays (for a list of publications, see http://scholar.harvard.edu/mdorr).

Given the interdisciplinary nature of our research, we are looking for enthusiastic candidates with a masters or equivalent degree in computer science, mathematics, or engineering with strong interest in neuroscientific questions; candidates from psychology and neuroscience with demonstrable programming experience are also encouraged to apply. TUM is an equal opportunity employer.

Munich recently has been voted fourth best city in the world in terms of quality of life, and TU Munich is consistently ranked among the top universities in Germany and the world. Salary will be according to German civil service pay scale E13/100% (minimum net after taxes and social security, approx. 2000 EUR/month).

Application Instructions: Please email a CV, a short statement of research interests and why you chose to apply for the position, as well as the names and contact information of two referees, to dorr@inb.uni-luebeck.de . Informal enquiries are also welcome. Review of applications will begin Sept 30th and continue until positions are filled.
